Buzzed: Understanding Drugs, Effects, etc.

This CE-approved training provides staff with an evidence-informed overview of substance use, drug effects, risk factors, and harm reduction principles using concepts from Buzzed: The Straight Facts About the Most Used and Abused Drugs. Participants will explore how substances affect the brain and behavior, examine major drug categories, and better understand the social, emotional, and environmental influences connected to substance use. Topics include: Foundations of drug effects and neurotransmitters Dose, set, and setting Tolerance, dependence, and addiction Depressants, stimulants, cannabis, hallucinogens, and MDMA Risk-taking and impaired decision-making Trauma-informed perspectives on substance use Harm reduction and safety strategies Social influence and perceived norms This training is designed to support trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental engagement with individuals impacted by substance use across behavioral health settings. Interactive activities and discussion scenarios are included throughout the course to strengthen practical application and critical thinking.
